Joining technology - meeting the manufacturing challenge

By Graham Wylde (Associate Director TWI)

Synopsis:

Materials joining is a key enabling technology central to almost every branch of manufacturing. Joining enables raw materials and components to be combined into engineering structures. Materials that cannot be readily joined will have limited use in manufacturing.

The demands of manufacturing are increasing year by year. Consumers want reduced cost, improved performance and products with reduced environmental impact. These requirements place increased demands on joining. Thus joining processes are continually evolving to cope with these increased demands.

This presentation will cover a wide range of joining technologies for metals and plastics, in addition to techniques for dissimilar materials joining.

The lecture will commence at 6.45 pm in Room D14 of the Manchester Materials Science Centre, the University of Manchester, Grosvenor Street, Manchester, M1 7HS

Free refreshments will be provided in the MMSC Common room.
